Adventure Palace

Adventure Palace Pokie Main Game Screen

Adventure Palace General Information:

The name, Adventure Palace, isn't a name which sticks together all too well. When people think of adventure they think of the outdoors, of mountains and caves, of forests and deserts, not of palaces. None-the-less, this pokie has made its bed and now it invites the rest of us to try it out. The theme itself, despite its obvious problems, works out better than this reviewer thought. Will it work for you? Keep reading to find out!

The Adventure Palace pokie game runs on the Microgaming software system. One of the most popular and prolific creators of online pokies, Microgaming has been in the business for over a decade, and have now taken their experience and applied it to a Adventure Palace themed game.

As is standard with games offered by the Microgaming software system, this game is available for play on PC, Mac, mobile and tablet systems, such is the versatility on offer.

Adventure Palace Pokie Main Game Screen

Adventure Palace comes with a total of 9 paylines over 5 reels in a 3×5 layout. The player can choose the total amount of paylines they want active, from 1 to 9.

  • The minimum coins bet sits at 1
  • The maximum coins bet sits at 5
  • Minimum coin size sits a 0.01
  • Maximum coins size sits at 1.00
  • The return to player offered by this game sits at around 96.1%, on the higher end of average.

These are accessed by hitting the small green up arrow towards the lower right of the screen. From here the player needs to simply click on the options button which appears.

Game Play Settings

These settings allow the player to select quickspin in both regular play and the freespins bonus game. This speeds up the reels so there is less time wasted waiting around. This section also offers players the ability to switch off the game's gamble feature.

Graphics Settings

Adventure Palace comes with a total of two different graphics settings. These are separated into Basic and Enhanced. Basic downplays the graphics, making the game run better on older or less powerful machines. When the enhanced setting is selected the game will look better, but the difference in this particular game is not large.

Sound Settings

Adventure Palace offers four possible sound options. The first of these is these ability to mute all noise generated from the game, which can also be achieved by simply clicking the sound icon at the top right of the main game page. The player can also choose to individually mute game sounds, win sounds, and background sounds.

Other Settings

Clicking on the credits button on the main page also allows the player to quickly switch between coin and credits display. Alternatively the player can choose to display currency in both coins and credits.

Clicking on the bet button brings up a display which allows the player to change their coin size, total amount of coins bet and amount of active betways.

The autoplay button allows the user to choose a variety of, you guessed it, autoplay options. The quick ones on offer are a 10, 25, 50 and 100x autospins, with an additional option to keep the game running until the stop button is manually clicked. This also allows the user to click the custom button to set further autospin rules. Here the player can enter their own custom amount of autospins and choose between 2 stop settings, these are once the spins are all complete, or once a certain amount has been won or exceeded.

Adventure Palace also comes with two help sections in the form of question-mark and view pays buttons. The view pays buttons gives a detailed listing of individual symbol, bonus values and game rules, while the question-mark offers general information on rules.

Also on offer is a stats button which, when clicked, brings up a display. This is split into 2 sections, spin results and highest wins. Spin results lists spins played, session time and spins per hour. The highest wins section lists the top three wins. Both sections only apply to the current game session.

Players can also click on the win button to bring up a list of the top 5 wins. When these were won, and where, is not listed.

The background for this game is obviously based around the idea of exploration and adventure, but how does it pull this off? Well, the general idea seems to be placed around the adventuring done by wealthy colonists. The whole move into an area, set up an enormous palace and use it show off all of the local animals you caught, killed or caught then killed.

A little tacky if you know the history of colonialism and the damage it caused and continues to cause, but we're here to play pokies, not for a moral preaching from some casino nerd, so let's ignore it.

Other Features and Bonuses

Adventure Palace Wild Symbol

The wilds symbol in this game comes in the form of a decorated elephant.

At maximum bet the payouts are as follows:

  • 2 give a bonus of 50 credits
  • 3 give a bonus of 1000 credits
  • 4 give a bonus of 10000 credits
  • 5 give a bonus of 50000 credits

When on a winning payline this symbol will double the player's win. This can substitute for any icon except the scatter symbol.

Adventure Palace Scatter Symbol

The scatter symbol in Adventure Palace come in form of what I can only assume is the adventure palace itself.

At maximum bet the payouts are as follows:

  • 2 scatter icons give a bonus of 90 credits
  • 3 scatter icons give a bonus of 225 credits
  • 4 scatter icons give a bonus of 900 credits
  • 5 scatter icons give a bonus of 22500 credits

Gathering 3,4 or 5 of these on a single spins grants access to the free spins game. These do not have to be on any winning paylines in order to be activated or payout.

BONUS GAMES and features

The free spins game is activated when the player gains 3,4 or 5 scatter symbols during a single spin. When activated this gives the player 15 free spins.

The total amount bet during these free spins is taken from the amount which was bet in the round in which the free spin bonus game was activated. Additional free spins can be retriggered from within this game.

Finally we have the gamble feature. This simply feature allows the player to gamble their winnings for a chance to double or quadruple cash.

 Adventure Palace Gamble

After a win the players can access this feature, unless they have it turned off from within the options menu. As you can see above – players can either choose colour or suit here. As there are two colours the player has a 50% chance of winning this version, which acts as double of nothing. The suit version has a 25% chance of winning, and acts as a quadruple or nothing. Players can keep gambling their winnings with this feature until either their cash is lost or the gamble limit is hit.

How to Play:

For the simplest possible experience the player need only choose their bet and click the spin button. Further customisation of their bet can be accessed by the user clicking on the bet button and changing their coin size, total coins wagered and the active betlines.

For autoplay and more advanced options the play can click on the autoplay button, this allows the player to select 1 of 5 basic autospin options, 10x, 25x, 50x, 100x or until manually stopped, or click customise to further change their options.

In the custom screen the player can enter their own amount of spins and set end rules, these rules are either once the spins are complete or once an entered amount of money has been won or exceeded.

Overall Design and Usability:

In terms of design this is a game which relies on simplicity. The graphics are all of a cartoonish design which, while a little basic, all work well with the theme. Here the animals represented as cards come from a variety of well known and exotic animals. This includes tigers, rattlesnakes, peacocks and monkeys. Not really sure if these things actually live in the same area as each-other, but then this is the Adventure Palace. This game might well be a little bit too simple to old-school or jaded players, but for those who value an easy to work with design it works very well.

When it comes to usability this is a game which offers most of what the players have come to expect. All of the basic options are here, and all work well. The game itself – perhaps owing to its simple design – is one which runs very well and is quick to respond. Even on the old laptop which this review was written on this game experienced no slowdown. In this way its slightly outdated looks might be working for the game, rather than against it.

Where to find it:

Microgaming is one of the most popular gambling software systems available, and is the main software used by a great many websites. If you already have a favourite gambling website then do a quick search, it might already be on offer. If it is not, or you would prefer a direct link then check out some of  the links below.

Not an especially imaginative theme, but one which works well. The game itself is a little dated looking, but everything which is on offer works, and works well. The bonuses on offer are a little basic, which is in line with the rest of the game, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you want something basic which runs well, or a good introduction into pokie games, then this might be a great place to start. Another solid entry from Microgaming, just not one of their best.
