Batman Main Game Screen

Batman Basic Information:

Spiderman gained his powers through getting bitten by a radioactive spider. The Flash gained his powers in a flash of chemicals and lightning. Batman then, it stands to reason, may well have gained his powers through a bite of a radioactive bat, right? No, actually. Super-rabies aside, the character of the Batman is one of the best known and popular super heroes of all time. Through his brain power and billions of dollars, Bruce Wayne has managed to stand toe to toe with some of the most dangerous enemies in the universe – and come out on top. Can we rely on his humanity to bring us victory through this pokie, or is this a case where the Batman is in dire need of preparation time? Keep reading our review to find out…

This pokie was created by the developers at NextGen Gaming. These guys are another software designer with a heavy focus on slot based games. While not as prolific as the likes of Microgaming or NetEnt, this team does not let their lesser visibility affect the quality of their creations.  This game was released on the 12th of July, 2016.

The NextGen system is compatible with a great many devices which are capable of running Flash. This means most PCs, Apple computers and tablets, along with a variety of other mobile devices. Check if your device supports flash, if it does you should be able to run games from NextGen.

Batman is a game built around simplicity, and because of this the game has a notable lack of options. Rather than the traditional option screen, Batman has the majority of its options available from the main game screen.

These include:

  • Betting Quantity Buttons

These simple increase or decrease the bet per line, though the paylines themselves cannot be customised.

  • Maximum Bet

This is the button which appears as a stack of gold coins, in the lower left of the main game screen. When this is clicked it will automatically set the amount bet to the maximum.

  • Audio Button

Moving the cursor over this button gives the player the ability to either set the volume at a specific level or mute the entire game.

  • i Button

This is used to open the main game information screen. This section includes helpful information on symbols, game rules and payouts.

  • Autoplay

When this button is clicked the player is brought to the autoplay settings screen. From this screen the player is able to use a slider to determine the amount of autospins which they wish to play out. They can also simply set it to the last used settings.

  • Bonus Bet

This is the button which is located to the lower right of the main game screen. When this is active each spin will cost 10 more coins. While this is active additional wilds will randomly appear on each spin, on reels 2,3 and 4. This also activates the Descent into Madness Feature, which is listed in the other features and bonuses section below.

The character known as Batman first appeared in 1939, in Detective Comics #27. Since then he has found his way into the pantheon of greatest super-heroes, despite the fact that his only superpower is wealth.

Bruce Wayne, at least in most incarnations of the story, is the son of Martha and Thomas Wayne. After leaving a film after being frightened, the apparently genius Thomas leads his family out through the literally named Crime Alley. Shockingly enough, once in this alley the Wayne family run into some crime. An attempted robbery goes sour as the robber kills both of Bruce's parents, before vanishing into the night.

Having just inherited billions of dollars, and with nothing but revenge and justice on his mind, the young Bruce spends his formative years developing his combat and detective skills to help fight and prevent further injustice. Together with his butler, Alfred, and a growing family of Bat-people, the Batman joins other superheroes in keeping the City of Gotham, and the world, safe.

Other Features and Bonuses

The Batman Re-Spin Feature gives the player 3 free re-spins when the Commissioner Gordon symbol appears on reel 1, and the Bat Signal appears on reel 5, or vice versa. During this feature stacked wilds can randomly appear on reels 2,3 or 4, and will be held there through the duration of the feature.

Batman Wild

The wild symbol in Batman comes in the form of the above Batman. This can appear on reels 2,3 and 4 only, and can substitute for all symbols except the scatter and bonus. When this appears as part of a win that payline will be doubled.

Batman Bonus

The bonus symbol in Batman appears as the above bat symbol. When three or more of these appear in a single spin the player gains access to the Descent into Madness bonus game.

Batman Scatter

The scatter symbol within this game appears as the above bat symbol. These do not need to appear on the same payline in order to generate a win. They can also act as multipliers for payouts. The multipliers generated come in the following quantities:

  • 2 scatters give a 100x multiplier when gathered
  • 3 scatters give a 200x multiplier when gathered
  • 4 scatters give a 750x multiplier when gathered
  • 5 scatters give a 5000x multiplier when gathered

Bonus Games

The bonus feature is won when the player manages to gain a minimum of 3 bonus symbols in a single spin. These can only appear when the bonus bet is active. When this game is activated Batman will be taken to a new screen where Batman must target inmates with with his Baterang in order to win prizes. Once this round is over the player will be brought to another screen where a similar game plays out against the Joker. If the player manages to hit the Joker with his weapon 3 times the game is won, and the player will be gifted a bonus of up to 100x the triggering bet.

How to Play:

Basic play for Batman is as simple as a player selecting a betting amount and clicking spin.

Clicking the autoplay button allows the player to go through a selection of different amounts of autospins.

Overall Design and Usability:

It's difficult to choose the most popular form of Batman. While the comics are obviously the starting point, most people will be more familiar with the films or TV series. This is a pokie which has gone back to the source, taking from the comics in a way that should appear to fans of comic books and Batman in his more traditional forms. This means art and panels which appear to have been directly lifted from the pages of the comic books. While the quality here is not quite up to the standard of the NextGen Superman pokie, it is still quite well done. This means the dark night of the Dark Knight, his gadgets, his allies and his enemies appear as symbols for this pokie.

In terms of usability Batman is a little bit disappointing. When it comes to playability and reliability the game is great, the issue comes from a lack of options. This means that players on older or less powerful devices lack the ability to turn down the graphics or effects the make the game run better on their machines, which is a little bit of a let down. This lack of options also applies to the other areas in the game, including the autoplay function.

Where to find it:

NextGen Gaming may not be as common as the big boys in the business, but they still do very well. Check out the following links for website reviews which offer games from the NextGen Gaming framework. From here you can decide which casino works for you, and you can jump right in!

The Dark Knight brings some great components to this game, though the pokie is not without its issues. The general look of the game is great, especially for those of us who are fans of comic books. Likewise the bonus structure is strong, especially when the bonus bet feature is active. The only real issues here are those common to NextGen games. This is that they miss out on some options which are key to certain players. The first of these is the lack of a robust autoplay. This means that veteran players might be turned off at the amount of attention this game necessitates. The other issue is one of graphics, as this game comes without any graphics options. This means that pokie players on less powerful or older devices might have some issues getting the game to run correctly, which can be a huge letdown.

If you keep these issues in mind, and they both bother you as a player, then we can absolutely recommend this pokie.
