Glow Main Game Screen

Glow Basic Information:

Bright lights, a rainbow of colours and the glow of neon lights – there are a few components which inevitably come to mind when considering the pokies which appear in real life. When it comes to online pokies these tend to be less common. This is because those pokies in casinos aim first towards LOOK AT ME, whereas those online have the freedom to be a little more diverse in their appearance. That said, there are still those which adopt similar schemes, even if they are more incidental than targeted. Is Glow an example of a pokie done right, or should this one have been left to burn out? This game operates under the use of the NetEnt gambling software system. The talented programmers and designers from NetEnt are well known for going the extra mile in their creations, and Glow is no exception. This game was released on the 23rd of April, 2015.

The NetEnt system is compatible with a great many devices which are capable of running Flash. This means most PCs, Apple computers and tablets, along with a variety of other mobile devices. Check if your device supports flash, if it does you should be able to run games from NetEnt.

Glow Main Game Screen

Glow comes with a total of 15 paylines over 5 reels in a 3×5 layout.

  • The minimum coins bet sits at 15
  • The maximum coins bet sits at 150
  • Minimum coin size sits a 0.01
  • Maximum coins size sits at 1.00
  • The return to player offered by this game is unknown. Games by NetEnt tend to offer an average or above average RTP, so this shouldn't be an issue.

By clicking on the spanner icon towards the lower left of the game screen the player can access the options menu. This brings up a menu with 5 different sections. These are as follows:

 Game Settings
  • Quickspin

Enabling this option speeds up the spinning of the reels. This means that these is less time spent waiting around between the time you click spin and when the reels come to rest, speeding up the entire experience.

  • Intro Screen

This option disables the intro screen from appearing the next time the player starts the game.

  • Animations

This option cuts the animations out of the main game. This has two advantages. The first is that it cuts down the time waiting before the symbols come to rest. The second is that cutting out these animations can help the game perform better on older or less powerful machines.

  • Ambience sound

This option toggles the background noises from the game. While these are rather atmospheric they might be annoying for some players.

  • Sound effects

This option simply toggles off all sound effects when selected.

Graphics Quality
  • High, Medium and Low

The different graphics settings here serve an important purpose. The higher these are set the better the game will look, but the more demanding it will be on older or less powerful devices. Because of this players should probably set the game to medium or low when experiencing performance problems on their chosen devices.

.Keyboard shortcuts
  • Spacebar to spin

This option lets the player start the spinning of the reels with a simple press of the spacebar, in addition to the regular methods.

Additional options can be accessed by clicking on the autoplay button. The basic options here allow the play to select from 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 750 or 1000 autospins.

The player can also click on the advanced settings button to further customise when their autoplay will end. There are five different stopping scenarios to choose from here:

  • On any win
  • If Free Spins are won
  • When a single win exceeds an entered amount
  • If cash increases by an entered amount
  • If cash decreases by an entered amount

Other Helpful Additions

Glow also comes with question-mark and i help icons. Both of these detail much the same thing, basic game and winning information, but the i button does this within the game and the question-mark opens a secondary text page. The page accessed by the i button also lists all payout information, paylines and bonus info.

The game can also be muted by simply toggling the sound button located on the lower right of the game main screen.

Sometimes we have to do some real research into finding the background of a pokie. This is not one of those times. Glow does not seem to be based off any previously existing property. Instead it seems to combine various elements of the stars and Native American symbolism. Odd, simple, but effective.

Other Features and Bonuses

Glow Wild Symbol

The wild symbol in Glow comes in the form of a glowing wolf-head symbol. These can substitute for any other symbols. All wins won with wild symbols award a double payout. Only the single highest paying combination from a wild symbol will generate a payout.

Glow Free Spins

The free spins symbol in this game comes in the form of a, uh, like a stag or something? Not quite sure on this one. Note that these are only the highest of the free spin generating symbols, as in the main game any of these main creature symbols act as free spin symbols when they appear consecutively on the payline.

In normal play:

  • 2 of these give 1 free spin when consecutive
  • 3 of these give 1 free spin when consecutive
  • 4 of these give 2 free spins when consecutive
  • 5 of these give 5 free spins when consecutive

The other main animal symbols give out their free spins at a different rate. This is as follows:

  • 3 give 1 free spin when consecutive
  • 4 give 2 free spins when consecutive
  • 5 give 5 free spins when consecutive

 Bonus Games

The free spins game in Glow is activated per the above rules. Once in this game additional free spins can be triggered. The quantity of spins which are added to the total spin count are the same as those listed above. In addition to the face-symbols being active as free spin symbols, in the free spins game the number cards (A,K,Q,J,10) will also become capable of generating free spins per the following rules:

  • 3 give 1 free spin when consecutive
  • 4 give 2 free spins when consecutive
  • 5 give 5 free spins when consecutive

How to Play:

Basic play for Glow is as simple as a player selecting a coin value and level and clicking spin. Alternatively the player can maximise their possible bet by simply clicking on the Max Bet button to the right of the spin icon.

Clicking the autoplay button allows the player to go through a selection of different amounts of autospins. From here the user can also click on the advanced settings button in order to manually select different stopping scenarios. These include on any win, when free spins are won, if a single win exceeds an entered amount, or if cash increased or decreases by an entered amount.

Overall Design and Usability:

When games fall back on simplicity for their design it can often go poorly. Simple graphics, while they might look nice at the time of release, can age poorly. While we do have some issues with the graphics of this game the problem is, ultimately, quite minor. The general design of Glow is very relaxed, calming and even pretty. Consisting mostly of blues and purples, this is game which uses the natural beauty of the night sky and an aurora to create its theme. While this is mostly achieved to great effect there is a problem which we faced on desktop devices. On these device the game itself was slightly stretched vertically, which makes everything look just a little bit off.

When it comes to usability there are no real issues here, in fact the game excels. Not only is this a game which performs very well and is seemingly very reliable, it comes with a multitude of graphical options which are often overlooked in the modern pokie market. The ability to choose between three different settings here is rarer than it should be, and is greatly appreciated.

Where to find it:

NetEnt games stand with Microgaming as some of the most popular available. If you already have a favourite gambling website then check out if they offer NetEnt games, if they do then you might be able to find Glow there. If it is not available, or if you want a more direct list then check out the links below.

One of, if not the most, chill pokie games which exist. For those who don't understand the lingo, it's a very relaxed, calm and comforting theme. If you are the type of player who loves to sit back, relax and spin a few reels than we can recommend this game on that alone. If you are after a bit more then we need to add a little bit of a disclaimer. There isn't really that much to this game. While it does have a great focus on free spins, if those are your thing, this is the only bonus structure contained within. That said – everything it wants to do it does very well, its just not the most ambitious pokie around.
