Gold Factory Basic information:

If you tried to come up with a name for a pokie machine which would draw in new users, which name would you take? It has to be something that is both interesting, and something which inspires thoughts of wealth. I can't say for sure that this was the reason why Gold Factory has the name and theme that it does, but I can't deny the draw that the name creates. Is this game a simple attempt to grab players, or does it have more to offer? Keep reading to find out!

Created by the talented folks responsible for the Microgaming gaming software, one of the most popular and powerful gambling software systems ever developed, Gold Factory is a pokie game released in the middle of June in 2011.

As is standard with games offered by the Microgaming software system, this game is available for play on PC, Mac, mobile and tablet systems, such is the versatility on offer.

Gold Factory Main Game Screen

Gold Factory comes with a total of 50 paylines over 5 reels in a 3×5 layout.

  • The minimum coins bet sits at 1
  • The maximum coins bet sits at 20
  • Minimum coin size sits a 0.01
  • Maximum coins size sits at 0.10
  • The return to player offered by this game sits at around 96.54%, slightly above average.

Options

Gold Factory includes all of the main options which a user would expect from modern pokie game. These are accessed by clicking the options button which sits towards the left of the bottom game bar and are then separated into three different sections, these are as follows:

  • Game Play Settings

Here the player has the option to enable quickspin. When enabled this speeds up the reels so there is less time waiting between the time which spins is clicked and when it stops. There is no change in the chances of each icon landing when this is enabled.

  • Sound Settings

This section comes with four options. The first option switches off all sounds, which can also be accessed via the main game page, these other options switch off individual sound sources, including game sounds, win sounds and background sounds.

  • Balance, Bet and Win Values

These allow the player to switch their currency display between coins and credits. This can also be achieved by clicking the credits button on the game's main page.

Other Helpful Additions

For more complicated options the user needs to click the expert button. This is located on the bottom gold bar which runs across the main game screen. Clicking this gives the player access to the autoplay function.

The autoplay button give the player access to various quickspin amounts, or they can enter their own custom quantity. The user can also choose to keep spinning until the stop button is clicked, or they can click custom to set further rules. These further rules allow the player to enter a custom amount of spins to complete and choose between two spin-end settings. The first of these settings allows the player to stop when all spins are complete. The second allows the spins to stop when wins equal or exceed a certain amount.

Also offered on the game itself is question mark icon which, when clicked, leads the user to a help page to answer any basic questions which the user might have. An additional button to the left side of the game lets the player check payouts and combinations information.

Finally, Gold Factory offers a statistics button which, when clicked, allows the player to see a variety of helpful information, which includes highest wins, spins player, spins per hour and session time. Note that these stats do not persist through sessions.

Background:

There isn't a whole lot that can be gone into here when it comes to background. This is, quite simply, a game that the designers thought might work will a theme based around the generation of wealth. Despite this appearing as if it might be a simple business decision, this is a game which has been developed and designed very well. When Microgaming decide they want to make something great they do, and they have.

Other Features and Bonuses

Gold Factory Wild

The wild symbol in this game comes in the form of a Gold Factory symbol.

  • 3 of these give a bonus of 150
  • 4 give a bonus of 1500
  • 5 give a bonus of 15000

These can substitute for any icon except the scatter symbol.

Gold Factory Wild

The scatter symbol appears as a golden coin with the word BONUS written across the bottom. Player gain the Gold Factory Bonus when 3 or more of these are gained on a single spin. These do not have to appear on an active payline in order to win.

  • 2 scatter icons give a bonus of 36
  • 3 scatter icons give a bonus of 54
  • 4 scatter icons give a bonus of 360
  • 5 scatter icons give a bonus of 3600

The Gold Factory Bonus stage gives the player a selection of items to choose from when active. Out of the 12 which are displayed the player may select 4. Each of the selected items hold random bonuses. These can be either cash bonuses, or the ability to enter the Free Spins or Reactor Room bonus games. The Reactor Room Bonus is entered when the player gains Reactor Room symbols. The Free Spins game requires free spin symbols.

Within the Reactor Room bonus stage the player needs to choose from 12 total items. There two game over symbols located within these 12. The player will keep choosing items until one of the symbols is found. Once this end symbol is gathered the game will end and the player will be gifted a 1x multiplier for uncollected items.

Free Spins Games

This game is entered when the player gains Free Spin symbols from within the Gold Factory bonus game. When active the player will given a randomised number of free spins. The exact number is determined by the two scrolling numbers which appear on the two separate screens. Additional free spins cannot be gained within this free spins game. Wins from this game are collected automatically.

Every bonus game takes the money which was bet in the round in which the bonus was won as a basis. This means that if 50 was the total bet when free spins were won the free spins game would operate while spinning with a bet of 50.

How to Play:

The simplest way to play Gold Factory is to simply select the amount of lines which they want active, the coins they wish to bet, and the value of each of these coins, and then click spin.  The player can open up more options here by clicking on the expert button. This is located on the golden bar which runs across the bottom of the main game screen, and gives access to the autoplay feature.

By clicking the autoplay button the user can access the quickspin options which allow a quick select of 10, 25, 50 or 100 auto spins, or to spin until the user manually stops the spin process. The custom button in this tab allows the player to enter their own amount of spins as well as stop when either this number of spins are completed or when a certain amount is won or exceeded.

Overall Design and Usability:

Most Microgaming creations tend to follow a similar setup. This is especially the case for games released within a certain time-frame. This means that if you played a Microgaming pokie from the past few years you'll know what you're in for here. When it comes to the theme and specific design from this game I have to say – I was impressed. Most pokies based around such a simple idea would stick to being simple, with a minimum amount of effort put into the game itself. This is not the case for Gold Factory. Every symbol in this fits the theme perfectly, and the additional of multiple theme-appropriate and fun bonus games really helps set this game above the rest. It even comes with the ability to customise paylines, which is becoming a rarer thing. Great design work all around.

When it comes to usability, Gold Factory is no slouch either. The game runs well on most systems, and looks good at the same time. This is a game which is fast to respond, and well laid out. The only real problem I can see with usability is the issue which all Microgaming pokies have when it comes to time-outs. Simply put – if you go away for 5-10 minutes the game session will time out, requiring you to reload it. While this can be annoying it should be noted that this also works as a safety feature, so it's not all bad. Just something to keep in mind if you are a player who likes to switch between games.

Where to find it:

As is common with websites that utilise the Microgaming software platform, Gold Factory is available on a great many sites so if you already have a favourite gambling website then check it out, Gold Factory might already be on offer.

If you want a more specific list then you can check out our reviews on some of the following sites, these all have Gold Factory available:

Rating:

A game which I had little confidence in, based off the title alone. Also a game which showed me not to jump to conclusions. Great design, fast and responsive and with a great selection of bonus games, this is a pokie which really stands above so many others. Don't write this one off as a simple cash-grab, this could be one of Microgaming's best.
