Robocop Main Game Screen

Robocop Basic Information:

The police force are there to protect and serve, at least that's what they're supposed to be there for. Robots, similarly, are also here to serve, though they do struggle a little bit on the whole protecting front. Where, then, does that leave robocops? Well, if the films are any indication, they are there to help us shoot rapists in the junk and fight off larger robots. Does this helpful attitude extend to pokies,  or is Robocop more of a robo-twat? Keep reading our review to find out…

From the original film of 1987, the concept of Robocop has gone on to become a powerful and massively profitable franchise.

Written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, and directed by Paul Verhoeven, Robocop follow the story of Alex Murphy. At the beginning of the film Murphy has a really bad day, and ends up with far more lead in his body than is recommended. Instead of leaving him to die, the Detroit Police Department, in conjunction with Omni Consumer Products, use him as a base for their cybernetic implants. This turns hims from regular cop into Robocop.

While revenge is a big part of this story, there are also some important questions raised. Questions like what does it mean to be human, and is there a threshold where humanity becomes something else?

Other Features and Bonuses

Robocop comes with four different features which can be randomly triggered on any spin within the main game. These are as follows:

  • Shootout Spin

When this feature is activated additional wild symbols will be placed on the reels. These can be dispersed on several random positions.

When this feature activates a big wild ED-209 symbol will be added to the reels.

  • Line-up Spin

  • OCP Bonus

The wild symbol in Robocop comes in the form of the above wild icon. These can appear on all reels and can substitute for any symbol except the bonus.

The bonus game in Robocop comes in the form of the OCP bonus. The regular form of this game is accessed when the player wins the random feature. The mega bonus version of this is activated when the player selects it after winning 3 bonus symbols in a single spin.

From here the player must choose the shown boxes in an attempt to create a winning match of three identical symbols. The player can also win 2x score multipliers in this game. Once 3 of one type of symbol are collected the game will end.

If the version of this is the one accessed through the bonus selection screen the game will come with an additional 5x prize multiplier.

How to Play:

Basic play for Robocop is as simple as a player selecting a betting amount and clicking spin.

Clicking the autoplay button allows the player to go through a selection of different amounts of autospins.

Overall Design and Usability:

The first Robocop film was released in 1987, and was set in the year 2029. This means that the entire film had that classic retro-futuristic look which was so popular at the time. While these original designs looked great, the nature of the films grittiness means that they might not have translated well into a pokie which is supposed to be attractive. This is one of the reasons why Robocop the pokie impresses so much – it managed to create a very attractive pokie using gritty and grimy aspects of the film. A lot of credit has to go to the design team here. Symbols, animations and background all work together flawlessly to create the look of a Detroit night, and to represent the film as a whole.

When it comes to usability the game still performs well, though there is still room for improvement. The game itself runs very well, with all buttons being responsive and with zero issues regarding reliability showing up in our testing process. The issue here stems for the lack of options. This game is modern and attractive, thus graphics options would be very helpful to users who are playing from older or less powerful hardware. This issue also extends to the autoplay function, which does the basic job fine but could also use some additional levels of customisation.

Where to find it:

Playtech may not be as common as the big boys in the business, but they still do very well. Check out the following links for website reviews which offer games from the Playtech framework. From here you can decide which casino works for you, and you can jump right in!

A great looking game which is more than just a nostalgia trip. Playtech are some of the best when it comes to licensed games, and this one is no different. Combine this with a solid bonus structure and you end up with a pokie which is a lot of fun for many users, not just those who care about the theme. While we can't say that the game will keep you entertained as long as some of the other pokies on the market, we can say that you'll likely enjoy the time you spend with this Playtech creation.
