Terminator 2 Basic information:
The first Terminator film was a revelation when it was released. With fantastic special effects and an incredibly memorable main bad-guy that actually worked well with the actor's limited range, this movie really hooked us and was a commercial and critical success. This was followed up by Terminator 2, which many regard as the best film in the series. Not content with just films, this franchise spread out into television series, video-games and now, naturally, a pokie game.
Created by the skilled programmers and designers responsible for the Microgaming gaming software, one of the most popular and powerful gambling software systems ever developed, Terminator 2 is a pokie game released at the beginning of May of 2014. This was the year before the release of the film Terminator Genisys, a film with what many would consider an eye-rolling name, which aimed to reboot the series but ended up getting critically panned. Despite having financial success the planned sequels were abandoned.
As is standard with games offered by the Microgaming software system, this game is available for play on PC, Mac, mobile and tablet systems, such is the versatility on offer.
Jurassic Park comes with a total of 1024 paylines over 5 reels in a 3×5 layout.
- The minimum coins bet sits at 1
- The maximum coins bet sits at 10
- Minimum coin size sits a 0.01
- Maximum coins size sits at 0.10
- The return to player offered by this game sits at just over 96.5%
Terminator 2 includes all of the main options which a user would expect from modern pokie game. These are accessed by clicking the options button which sits towards the left of the bottom game bar. These options are separated into 4 different sections, these are as follows:
- Game Play Settings
Here the player has the option to enable quickspin in both regular games and in the freespin bonus games.
- Graphic Settings
Terminator 2 comes with two possible graphics settings, basic and enhanced. While enhanced will obviously look better it will also be more demanding on system hardware, so those with older or less powerful machines might want to run this game on basic.
- Sound Settings
This section comes with four options. The first option switches off all sounds, which can also be accessed via the main game page. The options switch of individual sound sources, including game sounds, win sounds and background sounds.
- Balance, Bet and Win Values
These allow the player to switch their currency display between coins and credits. This can also be achieved by clicking the credits button on the game's main page.
Other Helpful Additions
The autoplay button give the player access to 10x, 25x, 50x and 100x quickspin options. The user can also choose to keep spinning until the stop button is clicked, or they can click custom to set further rules. These further rules allow the player to enter a custom amount of spins to complete and choose between two spin-end settings. The first of these settings allows the player to stop when all spins are complete. The second allows the spins to stop when wins equal or exceed a certain amount.
Also offered on the game itself is question mark icon which, when clicked, leads the user to a help page to answer any basic questions which the user might have. An additional view pays button on the lower left of the game lets the player check payouts and combinations information.
By clicking on the win button on the main game page the player can display a list of the top 5 wins on the game. Where these were achieved, and when, is not listed.
Terminator 2 also offers a statistics button which, when clicked, allows the player to see a variety of helpful information. This includes highest wins, spins player, spins per hour and session time. Note that these stats do not persist through sessions.
The original Terminator, from which all other media came from, was the creation of James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd. The film was based on the idea of an inevitable Judgement Day, when a computer system would gain self awareness and use human's nuclear stockpiles against them in a worldwide attack. Following this, the computer would create machines which would work to wipe out the rest of humanity.
Unfortunately for the machines, this war did not end up going very well for them. Right as they were losing the battle they decided on sending a machine back in time in order to stop the leader of the resistance from coming to power. In the case of The Terminator the objective was to kill his mother before he could be born, in Terminator 2 the idea was to kill this leader, John Conner, while he a teenager.
In the end it turns out they were never successful, but that never stopped them from trying. Judgement Day was coming, regardless of attempted to stop it, and the machines would never give up.
Many people see the Terminator franchise as one which has been under-performing for some time. While the first two films were very well received, the later three were considered mediocre. Never contend to simply give up, just like the machines, Hollywood continued to plan on more follow-ups.
Other Features and Bonuses
The wild symbol in this game comes in the form of the Terminator 2 ‘T2″ symbol against a background of nuclear fire.
- 3 of these give a bonus of 25
- 4 give a bonus of 150
- 5 give a bonus of 750
These can substitute for any icon except the scatter symbol.
The red T-800 Vision Bonus can trigger randomly on any non-winning spin. If this occurs only one scatter symbol is needed to activate the free spin bonus game, and icons of machines or humans generate extra payout for the spin.
The scatter symbol comes in the form of the blue sphere which carries the occupant through time. These do not need to occur on a winning payline in order to payout.
- 2 scatter icons give a bonus of 15
- 3 scatter icons give a bonus of 30
- 4 scatter icons give a bonus of 150
- 5 scatter icons give a bonus of 1500
Free Spins Games
The free spins bonus game can be triggered in two ways. The first is by gathering 3 or more scatter symbols in a single spin. The second is by gaining even a single scatter symbol during T-800 vision.
During this game the player is awarded 10 free spins, with the amount working off the wager which was placed during the round in which the free spin game was activated. During this game the T-1000 symbol (seen below) can transform into any other character symbol to award the highest possible winning combination. Free spins cannot be retriggered during this game.
How to Play:
The simplest way to play Terminator 2 is to simply select bet size and click spin, from here the bet can be further customised by clicking on the bet button and choosing coins bet and coin size. As this is a ways to win game the player cannot select how many paylines they wish to select, all 1024 will automatically be selected.
By clicking the autoplay button the user can access the quickspin options which allow a quick select of 10, 25, 50 or 100 auto spins, or to spin until the user manually stops the spin process. The custom button in this tab allows the player to enter their own amount of spins as well as stop when either this number of spins are completed or when a certain amount is won or exceeded.
Overall Design and Usability:
The design of Terminator 2 is one which I am personally quite fond of. This is a theme which is oddly well suited to a pokie game. A big part of this is the T-1000 symbol, which you might recognise as the liquid metal Terminator model played by Robert Patrick. The ability of this symbol to shape-shift into other symbols is really well utilised here, it's only a little thing but its shows a real appreciation and understanding of the source material. The T-800 vision feature is also a nice addition which further demonstrates this. Other than that, the design is fairly standard though, though the colour scheme is also well suited. The only real let-down here is the limited bonus game offer. This game only offers a single free spin game. It works well, but given the abundance of source material they could have done so much more.
When it comes to usability, this is a game which performs as well as you would expect from a game by Microgaming. These guys always have a lot of QA in their work, and it shows. Especially helpful is their now standard inclusion of the graphics options, though this is not as comprehensive as the options on offer from many other games.
Where to find it:
As is common with websites that utilise the Microgaming software platform, Terminator 2 is available on a great many sites, so if you already have a favourite gambling website then check it out, Terminator 2 might already be on offer.

If you're a fan of the Terminator franchise then I can recommend this one wholeheartedly. If you're a big fan of variety and bonus games then this one might not be for you. Also note that this is a ways to win game, meaning players do not get to customise their paylines. Other than that this game performs well. If you want something new then don't overlook this one. At the very least it's good for a few games.
