This game operates under the use of the NetEnt gambling software system. The talented programmers and designers from NetEnt are well known for going the extra mile in their creations, and When Pigs Fly is no exception. This game was released on the 21st of July, 2015.

The NetEnt system is compatible with a great many devices which are capable of running Flash. This means most PCs, Apple computers and tablets, along with a variety of other mobile devices. Check if your device supports flash, if it does you should be able to run games from NetEnt.

When Pigs Fly Main Game Screen

When Pigs Fly comes with a total of 3125 (holy cow)paylines over 5 reels in a 1-3-5-3-1 layout.

  • The minimum coins bet sits at 50
  • The maximum coins bet sits at 500
  • Minimum coin size sits a 0.01
  • Maximum coins size sits at 0.20
  • The return to player offered by this game is 97%, which is higher than average

By clicking on the spanner icon towards the lower left of the game screen the player can access the options menu. This brings up a menu with five different sections. These are as follows:

 Game Settings
  • Quickspin

Enabling this option speeds up the spinning of the reels. This means that these is less time spent waiting around between the time you click spin and when the reels come to rest, speeding up the entire experience.

  • Intro Screen

This option disables the intro screen from appearing the next time the player starts the game.

  • Animation

This option cuts the animations of the main game. This is especially helpful for players on older devices.

  • Ambience sound

This option toggles the background noises from the game. While these are rather atmospheric they might be annoying for some players.

  • Sound effects

This option simply toggles off all sound effects when selected.

Graphics Quality
  • High, Medium and Low

The different graphics settings here serve an important purpose. The higher these are set the better the game will look, but the more demanding it will be on older or less powerful devices. Because of this players should probably set the game to medium or low when experiencing performance problems on their chosen devices.

Keyboard Shortcuts
  • Spacebar to spin

This toggle simply adds spacebar as one of the ways in which the reels can be spun.

Additional options can be accessed by clicking on the autoplay button. The basic options here allow the play to select from 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 750 or 1000 autospins.

The player can also click on the advanced settings button to further customise when their autoplay will end. There are five different stopping scenarios to choose from here:

  • On any win
  • If Free Spins are won
  • When a single win exceeds an entered amount
  • If cash increases by an entered amount
  • If cash decreases by an entered amount

Other Helpful Additions

When Pigs Fly also comes with question-mark and ‘i' help icons. Both of these detail much the same thing, basic game and winning information, but the ‘i' button does this within the game and the question-mark opens a secondary text page. The page accessed by the ‘i' button also lists all payout information, paylines and bonus info.

The game can also be muted by simply toggling the sound button located on the lower right of the game main screen.

Without a clear reference to anything but the old saying, when pigs fly, there really isn't much to speak of when it comes to the background of this game. When pigs fly of course means that something is effectively never going to happen, because of all the barnyard animals to pick on for their evolutionary tree pigs make the easiest targets.

Other Features and Bonuses

When Pigs Fly Respins

When Pigs Fly comes with the re-spin feature. This feature gives a re-spin whenever a winning combination is gained. This can continue up to a maximum of five times. Each re-spin changes the layout of the reels, to those listed above, and increases the amount of active paylines.

When Pigs Fly Wild

The wild symbol in When Pigs Fly comes in the form of simply pink wild text. This can appear on reels 2-5 in both regular play and the free spins mode. These can substitute for any other symbol.

Bonus Games

The free spins bonus game in When Pigs Fly is won when the player reaches the maximum level of 5 re-spins. Following this the player will be given access to the free spins game. During this game the player is given access to 8 free spins, with 3125 active paylines.

How to Play:

Basic play for When Pigs Fly is as simple as a player selecting a coin value and level and clicking spin. Alternatively the player can maximise their possible bet by simply clicking on the Max Bet button to the right of the spin icon.

Clicking the autoplay button allows the player to go through a selection of different amounts of autospins. From here the user can also click on the advanced settings button in order to manually select different stopping scenarios. These include on any win, when free spins are won, if a single win exceeds an entered amount, or if cash increased or decreases by an entered amount.

Overall Design and Usability:

A simple game, in terms of design, but one which works well. The game relies on the background of nightfall for much of its colour and scheme, which works well. Combining the purples of a nights sky with the orange of the setting sun and our heroic pig-stronaut sets a pleasant visual experience. The graphics in this game are rather simple, as are the animations, but these never reach a level where they look out of place. The only real problems with the design come from two areas. The first is that the game is somewhat stretched vertically when played on PCs. The second is that the play-bar seems to be based off the default look, rather than being properly adapted to suit the theme.

In terms of usability, When Pigs Fly stands among the best. Everything within this game responds well, with the game itself appearing as fully reliable. Especially useful are the multitude of different options, with the graphics options being something which is often missed, but not here. Great work on the usability front here from NetEnt.

Where to find it:

When Pigs Fly is a pokie which I went into expecting it to be overly simplistic, and I am happy to say that I was wrong. When Pigs Fly brings a fun bonus re-spin structure with a very cute look to bring us a pokie which is more than the sum of its parts. While the game is perhaps not large enough to keep the more veteran players involved for long it does surely offer enough for those after something new, or those who are fans of cartoonish graphics and cute themes. Simple, cute and fun.
